Also known by his pen name, George Orwell. He was an British novelist and essayist who was born on the 25th of June, 1903 in Bengal, British India where he served in the Indian imperial police. After serving in India he returned to Europe and fought in the Spanish civil war and was wounded. He is best remembered for his political novels Animal Farm and 1984. Eric was a Socialist so he was very critical of Imperialism, Capitalism, Fascism and Stalinism. He incorperated his beliefs in his political books and he was mainly concerned with human freedom. He died on the 21st of January, 1950 in London.
